What an absolute delight this weekend turned out to be. With an almost carnival atmosphere on the seafront and a bit of something for everyone, it reminded me of a childhood spent inland and the excitement of taking a trip to the seaside!
Though I realise that the weather can be unpredictable (something that our meteorology bureau doesn't seem to have clocked, despite demonstrating it frequently), we should, surely, be doing this on a more regular basis.
Is there some reason why the Pleasurama landfill site couldn't be utilised for weekend events until it's actully used for something more permanent? That should lend us perhaps another 10 years of empty space to use. Unless, of course, there is the fear that people will damage all the pram wheels, empty lager cans and other, assorted detritus.
One does wonder when the word 'seaside' is going to factor into the councils non-plans!
Or are we just expected to 'watch this space'?

I don't think the Health and Safety Gestapo would approve the use of the site in case the Eastcliff suddenly became the Eastpileofchalk on the promenade.
I spose they could always put ECR's CTM on top of it and turn it into a feature
I agree with Lucy, there was a real old-fashioned seaside atmosphere about the place at the weekend, something that should be built on. Let's apply for metaphorical planning permisssion! Shouldn't be too difficult to get from TDC, they seem to hand them out like sweets to every other bugger.
The cliff is NOT about to fall down! Were that the case, I doubt that anyone along Wellington Cresent would be allowed out of their front door.
There are some cracks in the cliff behind the supporting wall which the council, rather bizzarely, are allowing to fill with water every time it rains.
Maybe the job isn't expensive enough to be bothering with just yet.
Anyhow, I agree with ECRs' agreement with me and think we should forge ahead with it.
Perhaps we can go for the retrospective, metaphorical planning permission at some later date.
I can only agree with the comment "lets do this more often" that I heard many times during the weekend.
I wonder though if you have any idea of the cost and effort involved and how few people really contribute to this event. I applaud them all!
Part of the problem is that because so few of the facilities are in place, the whole thing has to be reinvented each year.
The approach we are taking on the Eastcliff is to build as much of the required structure into the bandstand as possible so that future events we be easier and cheaper to produce.
Our next event will be on the beach on the 29th, see you there?
Having said that. Credit where it's due and all that It was a cracking weekend. As was the Air Show.
Now we got the Jazz in Margate to look forward to, and Folk Week in Dickensville.
Who said there's nothing to do in Thanet.
Roll on thr Isle of Thanet TT.
I agree, also, with Cllr Dave in his agreement with Ecrs' agreement with me. Or were you agreeing with my agreement of the aforementioned agreement?
Anyway, the whole thing seems quite agreeable!
I am aware of the work and cost involved in this type of event and also, out of neccesity, how small the organising committee has to be in order not to get too bogged down in bureaucrasy. When it comes to helping out on the day(s) though, there often seems to be plenty of enthusiasm and excitement to go around. Quite a buzz! I think people really want to share in this kind of thing!
Ooh, I feel like going to kick that horrid wooden fence down right now!!
